He listed the newly approved institutions as: Tazkiyah University, Kaduna State; Leadership University, Abuja; Jimoh Babalola University, Kwara State; Bridget University, Mbaise, Imo State; Greenland University, Jigawa State; JEFAP University, Niger State; Azione Verde University, Imo State; Unique Open University, Lagos State; and American Open University, Ogun State.

Alausa further revealed that the Tinubu administration met 551 pending applications for establishing tertiary institutions, all of which were reviewed under more rigorous approval standards.

He noted that this process narrowed the list to 79 active applications, of which nine received approval on Wednesday.

According to him, several of the newly approved universities had been awaiting accreditation for more than six years, with their promoters already developing campuses and committing billions of naira in investments.

“Past inefficiencies within the NUC caused prolonged delays in granting approvals. We have now implemented reforms to make the process more efficient, and today’s approvals reflect our effort to clear the backlog,” Alausa stated.

The minister further stated that the Federal Government has imposed a halt on new applications for private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, allowing only those that meet the newly established operational standards to be considered.
