The Federal Government launches Blackboard e-learning in Kaduna.

The Federal Government has commenced the deployment of the Blackboard Learning Management System across public tertiary institutions, with the initial implementation taking place at Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya.

In a statement made available to The PUNCH Weekend, the initiative—funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund—is described as the most extensive single rollout of Blackboard globally.

The programme was initially introduced in 2023 under the leadership of TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, in collaboration with Anthology Blackboard, an international leader in educational technology.

The Ministry of Education, headed by Dr. Maruf Alausa, approved the initiative as part of its drive to modernise teaching and learning across Nigerian institutions.

Officials described the initiative as the largest single adoption of Blackboard globally, positioning it as a benchmark for other institutions across Nigeria.

The unveiling took place at the School of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Education, Kafanchan Campus, with senior college officials, academic staff, and representatives from Pole Global Marketing—the local partner for Anthology Blackboard—present. The Vocational and Technical Education School was chosen as the pilot centre for the programme.

“Initiating this project goes beyond discussing reform; it embodies a bold vision,” remarked Nicolas Alboouze, Anthology’s Vice President for the Middle East and Africa, during his keynote address. “The TETFund Blackboard LMS bridges the gap between traditional teaching and a future where every student receives support, every lecturer has the necessary tools, and every aspiration becomes attainable.”
